Inter-Livery 20th Pancake Race 2024
There was no shortage of enthusiasm among those liverymen and supporters arriving at Guildhall Yard on Shrove Tuesday, 13th February for the 20th Inter-Livery Pancake Race when due to the inclement weather conditions the extremely wet “course” was deemed as unsafe and the “race” was called “off.”
However, in order not to disappoint and with a very competitive spirit continuing to prevail it was decided to move inside to the Guildhall Crypt and bring forward the luncheon, prior to which a “Fancy Dress Contest” would be held to determine the most innovative costume from the very imaginative outfits that were on parade.>br/>Following which a “Masters’ “Pancake Flipping Contest” took place whereby the Master with wearing his Chef’s Hat, Gloves together with his Badge and Gown, making the highest number of “Tosses” over a period of thirty seconds would be declared as the winner!
The Fruiterers Company made arrangements to supply the lemons which were most generously donated by Spitalfields Market Tenants’ Association.
Despite the initial disappointment caused by the atrocious weather the event was deemed to be a “Flipping Success.”
