The Livery Kitchens Initiative continues under the direction of the Worshipful Company of Drapers who are fully supported by the kitchens of the Grocers and Fishmongers’ Companies with generous funding from many other Livery companies together with the Fruiterers Company providing 2,400 pieces of fruit each week to communities in North and East London via City Harvest and towards the meal provision to 3 hospitals within the Barts Health NHS Trust (the Royal London Hospital, Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross university Hospital) Out of the three, the Royal London Hospital (RLH) is bearing the brunt of responsibility for managing the more serious Covid hospital admissions within the Barts Health NHS Trust in East London. In addition to the meal provision, the LKI were also asked to provide RLH a weekly welfare refreshment pack (of ice creams, drinks, chocolate, crisps, fruit (again, gratefully provided by the Fruiterers) nutrition bars and other such goodies) to help the c. 200 staff working on these wards, both physically cool down as well as recover their energy as they come out of full PPE after their 12+ hr shifts.
