Installation of the new Lord Mayor
Alderman Charles Bowman was, today, installed as Lord Mayor of London in an ancient ceremony, known as the Silent Ceremony.
As the name suggests, apart from the taking of the oath, the Ceremony is conducted in total silence with the symbols of power being transferred between the outgoing and incoming Lord Mayors without a word being uttered. The full description of the ceremony is available if you click on the following link:
Admission of the Lord Mayor Elect
Following the Ceremony the new Lord Mayor posed for photos with his extended family.
Tickets for this Ceremony are available to everyone in a public ballot that opens well before the event. It is totally unique and every Liveryman should take the opportunity to attend at least once. Only in this great City of ours could such a tradition continue to exist! Like the Lord Mayor’s Show it is, of course FREE.
