City Food & Drink Lecture
The City Food & Drink Lecture is an annual, invitation-only fixture in the City of London and food industry calendars.
Held at the prestigious Guildhall, the event is organised by the eight city livery companies whose roots are in the food industry – namely the Worshipful Companies of Bakers, Butchers, Cooks, Distillers, Farmers, Fishmongers, Fruiterers and Poulters.
Sir Roger Gifford, Lord Mayor 2012 – 2013 wrote:
“The City Food Lecture is an excellent example of innovation and leadership by the Livery Companies of the City of London. The event staged each year by the seven food-related Livery Companies is an important forum to explore discuss, explore and promote new ideas and solutions for the production and provision of fresh produce.”
The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers have a long and proud association with the City Food Lecture, where over the years, they have demonstrated their support by providing a large number of panel members together with a large attendance of Fruiterers “on the night” As the prime mover, Past Master Laurence Olins Chaired the event for the first twelve years, where with his inspirational approach he established what has become the industry’s showcase for new ideas and solutions. Subsequent Chairman have been Dr Margaret Charrington who took over from Laurence, John Reynolds and then in 2016 / 2017 John Giles was asked to Chair the event.
The City Food Lecture is an important date in the Fruiterers’ Programme and a flag ship event in the City of London!
