Ultimate authority of the Company rests with the Master, supported by the Upper Warden and the Renter Warden. They take office annually at the start of the Company’s year in January on St Paul’s Day.

Master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers
Progression to become Master of the Company is via a number of pre-determined steps and is the highest honour to bestow upon a member. The Liveryman must first be selected to serve as an Honorary Assistant of the Company, a role undertaken for 2 years, wherein the member joins Court meetings with some voting rights.
Thereafter selection based upon merit, and desire to progress, sees the member take on the role of Renter-Warden Elect, a role newly created in 2024, which allows them to observe the Master’s Committee and Court, in preparation for their role as a full Warden.
The following year the individual seeks election to become the Renter Warden of the Company. The Renter Warden is responsible for the management of the team of Honorary Assistants, as well as the Company valuables. He or she will sit as a Warden of the Court and attend a number of sub-committees, thereby extending their knowledge and understanding of the workings of the Company.
The next step, the following year, is to seek election to become the Upper Warden of the Company. The Upper Warden is second in command to the Master, using his or her year to prepare for their year as Master and gain a full understanding of the Company. The Upper Warden sits on the Awards Council and works closely with the Clerk to plan their year as Master.
